What kind of unicorn can fly? One that is part dragon and 100% badass! Ok, there might be some math issues there, but you get the point. Shana Alverson, owner of Crossfit East Decatur, flying high in the sky at the Reebok 2012 Crossfit Games.
What started as me and Travis Holley lifting heavy shit is slowly turning into the prison yard. It doesn’t take much to understand why everyone wants to train with Travis Holley. Its simple! He know’s his shit and he is constantly improving not only as a coach but as person.
Y’all know Travis and I go back to our days in Colorado when he used to work at GloboGym and he was running a Crossfit program.. Those days are long gone and now what started as a 2 week PT session is drawing other athletes that just want to get shit done.
Taking Wednesday off because Atomic Athlete has us on the Big24 program and at 30 years old I don’t need to be in the gym 5 days per week. I need to be refreshed for the Fall competition schedule.. We have lots of traveling coming up! #FITSTRONG
Today was cray session with Travis Holley. I should had known after he asked “how you feeling today?” By now I should know that stands for code.. “you are about to get your ass kicked”
Started off with some dynamic warm up and to get the legs warm 5 rounds you go/I go of sled walks and sprints.
Once we finished we moved back inside the garage (oh i didnt mention we train outside about 50 % of the time.. Which in Austin during the summer it might as well feel like the Sahara) Camels and all can be seen on the horizon. Anyways we had the log waiting.
On the log we went for 12 minutes working up to a one rep max clean and press. Wasn’t much time in between before we took on 3 sets of:
20 Barbell bent-over rows
15 heavy russian swings (74#)kb
10 skull crushers
5 Heavy clean 205/185#
Needs less to say Monday started off right..
Welcome to the world of Military Athlete.. No longer is punishing the body enough.. Mental fitness is a priority here! What started as my Crossfit journey 5 years ago is now a full time career in Crossfit, but also the search in finding more challenging disciplines like trail running, mountain climbing and SUP…
Military athlete to me is more than a workout.. Its now a lifestyle of survival and life preservation. Thinking outside the gym setting and the ability to survive chaos and the unknown.
Will be going HAM for the next 12 weeks combining Travis Holley Strictly Strength and a series of weight trail runs, swimming and yoga.
